WHERE WE ARE

AFRICA'S RISING STAR

Many centuries before the arrival of the Portuguese, Arab traders had established trading posts in northern Mozambique.

Mozambique or, rather, MOÇAMBIQUE in the country´s official language (Portuguese) gets its name from an Arab sheik called Mussa Ben Mbiki a name which when pronounced by local people in time became MOÇAMBIQUE (read the “ç” in the same way as the “ç” in “façade”).

Mozambique is located on the south eastern coast of Africa, bordering Tanzania to the north, Zimbabwe to the west, South Africa to the south., facing the Indian Ocean to the east with an unending sea front.

Map of Mozambique

Mozambique has the longest coast line of any continental African country: more than 2500 kms in length, facing the island of Madagascar across the Mozambique channel.

The country consists mainly of large areas of low-lying plateau cut by 25 rivers that flow into the Indian Ocean. The largest is the Zambeze.

The major ports are Pemba (in the north), Quelimane and Beira (in the center) and Maputo – the capital (in the south).

The country was under Portuguese rule from the early XVI century until it achieved independence in 1975.

Independence was followed by a long and bitter civil war which ended in 1992. Since then increasing stability has improved the country´s economic situation and opened it to foreign visitors and investors.

Due to its recent economic recovery growing democracy and political stability Mozambique is often described in the media as “Africa`s rising star”.

Mozambique can offer opportunities in many fields including:

  • agriculture – cotton, tea, sugar, corn, cashew nuts, coconuts, sisal, etc.;

  • fisheries – fish and seafood - industrial and semi-industrial fishing (remember the famous Mozambique prawns!);

  • minerals – coal, marble, gold, etc.;

  • industry – (varied i.e.: there are cement and aluminium factories; there is, among many others, a need for wood product manufacture);

  • training and education  – (there is still a great lack of training and professional skills colleges);

  • film locations – from director Sydney Pollak (“The Interpreter”) to, more recently, movie star Leonardo di Caprio (in the film “Blood Diamond”) – the film industry has discovered Mozambique and its friendly people as the ideal place for making movies with Africa as background;

  • tourism – with its long coast of unexplored beaches, its lakes, islands, rivers, large areas with potential for nature reserves, tourism is a high potential investment.

This is but a short list. If you contact us with your specific investment plans or if you spend sometime travelling and making contacts in Mozambique, together we might just stumble across that unique opportunity waiting for you: serendipity!

WE ARE

Based in the capital – MAPUTO – and in ZITUNDO – a small rural village in the southernmost district area of Matutuine.

We conduct our businesses mainly in MAPUTO but we will work where our services might be needed throughout Mozambique and elsewhere in the world.

As for “the land surface use” tourist project please contact us for details.

However, as social entrepreneurs with a vision, great part of our dedication to community and environment issues will be focused in Zitundo/ Matutuine district. ZITUNDO is where we have been involved since the 1992 Peace Agreement and where we have a public commitment to try and contribute from 2007 onwards with measurable long term positive impact actions in solving identified problems together with the local authorities and the local community.

Maputo city

ZITUNDO is located c. 90 Kms south of Maputo and c. 25 Kms from the South African border post of Mkuzi / Kosi Bay.

ZITUNDO is strategically placed at a crossroads where everyone stops for a rest on their way from Maputo to any of the seaside resorts in the area, and it has administrative importance due to the fact that it is the chief government Admin. Post for that whole part of the district.

This is an area of many lakes with hippos and crocodiles and various species of sweet water fish including cat-fish which is a local delicacy. The lake in ZITUNDO is called SOTIVA.

Local map

Close to our base in ZITUNDO, at about 20 Kms distance, is the Elephant Reserve. And about 20 kms south is the Ponta do Ouro tourist resort.

Truly the master of the road !

There are also many stunning beaches nearby such as Ponta Mamoli, Ponta Madejanine, Ponta Malongane, etc.
